FINAL DAY OF THE VW ROAD TRIP – COCKLEBIDDY TO PERTH – 1185KM
Paying $2.20 per litre for fuel, in the middle of nowhere with no other options, feels a little like being raped in the wallet. I’m sure it has something to do with the delivery distances or something equally as preposterous. Anyway, we kicked off the final day by being drained of all our pocket money then hit the road in the pre-dawn glow from South Australia somewhere.
My advice to animal lovers, avoid doing these drives in the early hours. Your heart will be sad at the sheer number of freshly deceased national icons. If you are an extreme animal lover, don’t do the drive at all – you won’t have a good time.
The area west of Cocklebiddy is a high traffic areas for roos and emus. To give you an idea, we drove out of the petrol station and almost ran in to two large buggers within the first 50 metres. Luckily then entire trip was pretty much clear of any road fatalities, the exception being one small bird that Pat managed to collide with. It was over pretty quickly for him thankfully.
